Child Safety

Glass Street Kindergarten:

• is committed to the rights of all children to feel safe, and be safe at all times, including:
  • promoting the cultural safety of Aboriginal children
  • promoting the cultural safety of children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • promoting the safety of children with a disability
• values, respects and cares for children
• fosters opportunities for each child to participate, express their views and to learn and develop
• always acts in the best interests of each child and has zero tolerance of child abuse
• takes all reasonable steps to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of children at all times, while also promoting their learning and development
• actively manages the risks of abuse or harm to each child, including fulfilling our duty of care and legal obligations to protect children and prevent any reasonable, foreseeable risk of injury or harm
• continuously improves the way our service identifies risks of and responds to child abuse and encourages reporting and improved responses to allegations of abuse.

Glass Street Kindergarten is committed to child safety.

• We want children to be safe, happy and empowered. 
• We support and respect all children, as well as our staff and volunteers.
• We are committed to the safety, participation and empowerment of all children.
• We have zero tolerance of child abuse, and all allegations and safety concerns will be treated very seriously and consistently with our robust policies and procedures.
• We have legal and moral obligations to contact authorities when we are worried about a child’s safety, which we follow rigorously.

Glass Street Kindergarten is committed to preventing child abuse and identifying risks early, and removing and reducing these risks. Glass Street Kindergarten has robust human resources and recruitment practices to reduce the risk of child abuse by new and existing board members, staff and volunteers. Glass Street Kindergarten is committed to regularly training and educating our committee members, staff and volunteers on child abuse risks.

We are committed to the cultural safety of Aboriginal children, the cultural safety of children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds, and to providing a safe environment for children with a disability.

We have specific policies and procedures in place that support our committee members, staff and volunteers to achieve these commitments including our Commitment to the Cultural Safety of Aboriginal Children and Commitment to Child Safety.

As a demonstration of our duty of care, all visitors and volunteers at Glass Street Kindergarten require a Working with Children check, including parents who volunteer for Stay and Play or help out at our working bees.
